THE INSPIRATION
Oh Canada... the picture above is of the Saguenay - Lac-Saint-Jean region in Québec, where our story begins.
In 2017, we learnt about a fellow Canadian from the Saguenay, who started a distillery and in the first year of production won Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Inspired by his surroundings, Jean-Philippe Bouchard of Distillerie du Fjord wanted to produce a gin that captured the essence of the boréal forest. This became their flagship gin - Km12.
Along with Distillerie du Fjord, we carefully selected two other Québec distilleries who share our commitment to quality and whose products reflect their terroir. One of these is Distillerie du St. Laurent that uses as the main ingredient for its St Laurent Gin, seaweed harvested from the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. The aged version of this gin rests in bourbon barrels from Wild Turkey Distillery for one year - a hit with whisky drinkers! Distillerie du St. Laurent won Canadian Gin Distillery of the Year at the New York International Spirits Competition in 2016.
The third distillery is no stranger to the Québec micro-distillery scene. Founded in 2014, Cirka Distilleries produced Québec’s first grain-to-bottle vodka, using 100% non-GMO Canadian corn, which won the Gold Medal at the 2016 World Vodka Masters.
Vodka Terroir is the base spirit for Cirka’s famed Gin Sauvage, a contemporary version of a London Dry gin, made with 30 plus botanicals. Gin Sauvage won Gold at the 2018 Canadian Artisan Spirit Competition.
All our products use only natural ingredients, many of which are sourced in Québec. And while they make excellent sipping gins, they are equally good in a cocktail or a gin and tonic.
We are delighted to share with you a taste of Québec. Santé!
